Kipling’s home, Batemans, had previously been the family home of Brian’s ancestor John Freeland. John left money for a Bread Charity his brother Henry was game-keeper to the notorious Webster family Parson William Levett made Cannon Thomas Brassey built the world’s railways Hilaire Belloc was a parliamentarian and prolific author.
Their stories, and others, recall life in our county during that period.
