Could there be a more quintessentially 60’s film, for the 60’s entry on our Classics of the 50s, 60’s and 70’s festival season, than Breakfast at Tiffanies?
Based on Truman Capote's novel, this is the story of a young woman in New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building. He is with an older woman who is very wealthy, but he wants to be a writer. She is working as an expensive escort and searching for a rich, older man to marry.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a charming, rather cock-eyed, whimsical, fantastical, sentimental fairy story, with a whopping part for Audrey Hepburn. It is a fairy story with smartish, literate and often very funny dialogue, but it is a fairy story nevertheless, for the simple reason that Miss Hepburn is playing the lead – and Miss Hepburn is a fairy princess…. surrender to her spell!
Rest assured that Theatre seating is being allocated in a socially distanced manner.
